Thetis Island

I went to Thetis Island for an afternoon to see the camp owned by the organization I work for.

There were some interesting rocks on the beach.

This is the branch of an arbutus tree (red, peeling bark) of which there are many, on Vancouver Island at least.

Denman Island, BC

Denman is a beautiful island 2.5 hours north of Victoria in the Georgia Strait. I enjoyed my time there and it was so relaxing!

I was given the room with the view (of the farm, ocean and mountains)!

We came across this crab on the beach with what looked like a slice of bread on its back although now that I've rotated the picture it looks more like a mushroom.

On my first night my friend cooked me two oysters they had collected off the beach - they were good!

This is one of my friend's kids suspended above one of the two private freshwater lakes on the island. A rope was tied way up in a tree so that you could climb up a hill with the end of the rope and swing out into the lake Tarzan-style. Um, I didn't try this....

We took an afternoon trip to Texada Island and on the way back saw this sea lion. It was the size of a grizzly bear...huge!

Vancouver, BC

I loved how the trees overhang the streets in the neighbourhood where I stayed.

The hedges are often so tall you can barely see the houses behind them. A minivan could easily pass through the archway of this one.

This is Cordova Beach with the downtown in the background. It was a five-minute walk from where I stayed.

I liked these red cranes. To give you an idea of the the size of them, the boxes stacked just below them are railway car boxes!

The workers at Van Dusen Park and Queen Elizabeth Park are currently on strike but we were still able to visit QE Park.

Lynn Canyon

Lynn Canyon is in North Vancouver. There are trails, smaller beaches and the long canyon with two sets of falls. This is the suspension bridge over one part of the canyon.
